After completing a biological science degree at Wits University in South Africa in the early 80’s, I worked as a research scientist in both biotechnology and then with IBS (in a GB NHS clinical setting) in the mid- late 80’s. I later practised as an ecologist for 7 years, undertaking a Masters degree in Human Ecology at Edinburgh University after moving with my Lewisian partner to the Isle of Lewis in 1995. A growing disillusionment with the ecology movement synchronous to a health crisis in the mid 1990's led me to seek my own health solutions and after finally following a nutritional programme dispensed by an ION practitioner, to study nutrition for 3 years myself at the Institute of Optimum Nutrition (ION, London) in the late 90’s. I now practise nutritional therapy from 2 clinics in the Central Belt but welcome clients from throughout Scotland (recognising through my own experience of a health crisis outside a major city, the difficulties in accessing relevant and high quality complementary medicine advice from an isolated location). | | Ursula Fearn | I am 47 years old and have been practising nutritional therapy now for 9 years. The main focus of my clinical experience and results achieved to date has been working with the multitude of female hormone balance complaints, cancer support especially breast, digestive complaints including candida, fatigue (another epidemic of modern life) and weight management issues, same again!
Regarding my Continuing Professional Development :: My most recent training updates since graduating have been in the area of cancer support. On the 30th July, 2003 I was awarded the 'Certificate in Working With People With Cancer' by the Bristol Cancer Help Centre (First Qualification of its kind aimed at improving Comp. Med. Cancer Care Practice in UK). I also undertook a week long Introductory Course in Palliative Care through St. Columba’s Hospice, Edinburgh as well as a certificated course in the use of Herbal Medicine in Cancer Support during 2002.
